Selleck Family 42 Chev Truck

Build completed in 2017

This 42 Chev truck was refurbished for the Selleck Family in honour of the late Mr Mervyn and Mrs Sylvia Selleck.

The original Chev truck was owned by Braithe's father Mervyn and it wasn't unusual to see Mr Selleck Snr head off to the Port with bags of wheat on the back, with the Chev truck owned by the Selleck Family since new. The late Tony Kuchel paid a visit to the Selleck's farm to view the two 42 Chev trucks used for this project, one (grey) being the prime project vehicle with a 2nd (red) being used for various donor parts. Braithe bought the trucks to the Kuchel Custom Truck depot in June 2016 for the project to begin.

Both vehicles were completely stripped back and cleaned before the major restoration began. The longer chassis on the grey truck meant it was the ideal candidate for the restoration. The rear of the grey cab and front of the red cab were joined together to produce the best results. The bottom of the cowel and the lower section inner/outer of the doors are all fabricated with new metal. The cab was then sent into the Kuchel paint shed for first priming spray.

The cab was them moved into the workshop for the mechanical and auto-electrical work to begin. Various parts were sourced from the USA, including the running board steps, sun visor and other items. With other various parts refurbished from the donor truck.

Once sprayed in the final coat of traditional beige and rich metallic red, the truck had a full re-trim by the amazing Steve Baum of Stateside trim. Braithe & Lyn would visit the Kuchel site every now and again to see view the projects progress.

The expertise of Brian Earle was enlisted to complete all signwriting on the Chev.

The platform and stake rack was made up as original and was a very rare feature and was constructed from Tasmanian oak.

The build was completed in March 2017 with the ultimate goal to have the build completed for son Ashley's wedding to his now wife Kate, married in 2017 with the Chev looking her finest.

The personalised number plate signifies the tribute to Merv & Sylv with their initials and the '60' for Braithe's milestone Birthday which he celebrated around the time of the build.
